Overview

In Work Package 1, user requirements will be specified, drone and sensor infrastructure will be designed, hardware and software will be purchased, and physical space will be allocated and organized. Two physical nodes are planned at NIVA in Oslo and NTNU in Trondheim, where the required space is guaranteed by the two institutions (see LoI from NIVA and NTNU).

DESIGN AND METHODS

Work Package 1 will identify requirements for SeaBee, including specifications to purchase drones and sensor systems, and allocate the space necessary to accommodate drones, sensors, and associated infrastructure. Systems that have a proven record of accomplishment for field activities will be given preference, as technical issues in the field are known to be costly and cause delays. Fixed-wing and multirotor drones will be required for different applications, e.g., fixed-wings cover larger areas in shorter time (300 h/hour), while rotor drones are preferred for low altitude (<50m) and high precision mapping (<1cm/pixel). Due to continuous, rapid product developments in this area of technology, exact purchase decisions, particularly optics will be based on best available technology with proven ability at SeaBee’s start up. An overview of current relevant technology is given in Table 1. This Work Package will define, specify and purchase drone-sensor systems that fit the needs of downstream WP’s, and systematically evaluate requirements based on feedback from the other work packages
