Activities
To develop, test out and fine-tune SeaBee’s capabilities in a real-world setting, several field studies are planned as part of the project. By collecting data on the ground using both traditional benchmark methods and drones during the project’s establishment phase, it will enable validation of SeaBee’s drone products and further improve on their automated generation. SeaBee will also be taking advantage of existing and future national data collection programs to support field campaigns in areas such as the monitoring of coastal ecosystems, seabirds, surface water applications, and marine restoration. Mammals
Estimate seal population size and distribution, testing drone-based biometric measures incl. biomass, going from VLOS to EVLOS and BVLOS operations. More information to come.
Seabirds
Estimate breeding seabird population sizes, distribution and dynamics, compare with existing seabird monitoring programs, including the national SEAPOP program. More information to come.
Coastal Habitat Mapping
Develop protocol for mapping benthic habitats in the beach zone, subsurface vegetation (such as seagrass, seaweed, and kelp), seafloor substrate types and other management relevant …
Water Quality
Develop applications for surface water monitoring based on ‘ocean color’ theory, derive data on light attenuation, ocean darkening, phytoplankton biomass, and harmful algalblooms. NorSOOP ship-of-opportunity …
