Underwater mapping and correction of water column effects

Oscar Pizarro trained as an oceanographic engineer in the MIT/WHOI Joint Program, specializing in underwater imaging from robotic platforms. He co-founded the world’s first benthic monitoring program using autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). He is interested in scalable autonomous systems for continuous observation of the marine environment and novel optical underwater imaging techniques. After 16 years at the University of Sydney’s Australian Centre for Field Robotics, he joined NTNU as a senior researcher in 2022.
